Why certify products?

Novice entrepreneurs always wonder why products sometimes require certification and what advantages it provides. Let's find out what this term means. Certification is a procedure a successful completion of which confirms that a product or service meets all national and international standards and technical regulations. This means that the product has been checked, passed laboratory testing and is safe for people and the environment.

Obtaining a certificate of conformity is mandatory for products approved by Government Decree No. 982. Lack of permits can result in large fines, administrative proceedings against the owner of goods and suspension of the activity of their enterprise.

Benefits of certification

Let's figure out why voluntary certification of the product is needed, what the procedure consists of, and how it benefits your business. The main benefits are: confirmation of safety of manufactured goods and their high quality, which is equally important for both the manufacturer and the end consumer. Certification expands the company's possibilities, allowing it to grow, enter international markets, participate in large projects, and compete with similar organizations.

The applicant determines the product code in accordance with the Commodity Nomenclature of Foreign Economic Activity classifier, prepares a set of documents, fills in and submits an application to an accredited center where the application is reviewed. Afterwards, they take samples of your product for research and testing in accordance with the existing schemes. There are three groups of schemes: technical regulations of the Customs Union (TR CU), state standards of the Russian Federation (GOST R), and technical regulations of the Russian Federation (TR R). Each group contains several schemes, which are combined depending on the type of tests carried out, the need for an audit of the production site, and availability of a QMS license (quality management system).

Choosing a scheme is not easy if you have just become a manufacturer or supplier of imported products. Certification of imported goods includes plenty of nuances. Check whether your product category requires certification. If not, you need to decide if you want to certify.
